SAP is the biggest name in enterprise software, and many growing businesses in Kuwait ask whether they should "go with SAP". For small and mid-sized companies, the relevant SAP product is usually SAP Business One, not the large enterprise systems. Here is a fair comparison of SAP Business One and Exceed ERP for a business in Kuwait.
Two different approaches
SAP Business One is SAP's ERP for small and midsize businesses, made by SAP SE of Germany and used by more than 83,000 customers in over 170 countries. SAP does not sell it directly: it is licensed, implemented and supported through certified SAP partners, including partners in Kuwait. It runs on your servers or in a cloud hosted by a partner.
Exceed ERP is an integrated ERP system with a team based in Kuwait, serving more than 180 businesses across Kuwait and the GCC since 2011. The same company provides the software, implementation, training and support, in Arabic and English.
Where SAP Business One shines
- A globally proven product from the world's best-known ERP vendor.
- Strong core operations: financials, banking, inventory, purchasing, sales and manufacturing with MRP.
- A large partner ecosystem with hundreds of partners and add-on solutions for specific needs.
- A clear growth path within the SAP family if you later move to SAP's enterprise systems.
- Useful for international groups that already standardize on SAP.
Points to check before choosing SAP Business One in Kuwait
- Total cost, not just licences. SAP does not publish prices; you receive a quote from a partner. Ask for the full cost: licences, annual maintenance, implementation, hosting and any add-ons.
- HR and payroll. SAP Business One's core focuses on finance and operations, with basic employee records; payroll is typically added through partner solutions. Ask the partner to show payroll under Kuwait Labor Law, including end-of-service indemnity.
- Point of sale and industry needs. Retail POS, contracting and real estate are generally covered by separate SAP products or partner add-ons. Confirm who supports each piece.
- Local fit. Ask the partner how the system is configured for Kuwait and to demonstrate the Arabic interface and Arabic printed documents.
Where Exceed ERP fits better
- Everything in one system. HR and payroll, POS, contracting and real estate are modules of Exceed ERP itself, sharing one database with accounting and inventory.
- Kuwait's labor laws built in. The HR module follows Kuwait Labor Law, social insurance and end-of-service rules, and every screen and report works in Arabic and English.
- One accountable team. No separate licensor and implementer. The same Kuwait-based team delivers and supports the system.
- Right-sized for SMBs. Pricing is based on your number of users and the modules you choose, and most implementations complete within eight to twelve weeks, including data migration and training.
What about SAP S/4HANA?
SAP S/4HANA is SAP's flagship enterprise ERP, offered in the cloud and on-premise. It is designed for large, complex and often multinational organizations. For most small and mid-sized companies in Kuwait, it is more system, and a bigger project, than they need.
Activities built into Exceed ERP
Several activities that matter to businesses in Kuwait are standard modules in Exceed ERP, while SAP Business One covers them only through partner add-ons:
- Contracting: owner and subcontractor progress certificates, retention and advance recovery. SAP Business One's core project management is general-purpose.
- Real estate investment and property management: unit sales on installment plans, leases, rent collection and post-dated cheques.
- Car service centers: workshop job orders and vehicle service history. SAP Business One has a general service module, not a car workshop system.
- Schools and training centers: enrolment, fees, grades and attendance.
- Freight forwarding and customs clearance: shipment files, bills of lading, clearance and trucking.
- Mobile apps for field work: stock counting by barcode and receipt vouchers issued at the customer's site. SAP's own mobile apps focus on sales, service and dashboards and do not include stock counting or payment collection.
- Van sales: route sales from the vehicle, with van stock, invoicing and collection at the customer's site, in Exceed ERP. In SAP Business One, van sales solutions come from partner add-ons.
Which one should you choose?
SAP Business One is a solid choice if you belong to a group that already uses SAP, need SAP specifically for international reporting, or plan to move up to SAP's enterprise systems. Exceed ERP is the better fit if you want a complete ERP system for a business in Kuwait, including payroll, POS, contracting or real estate, without assembling add-ons from several parties.
