Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for small and mid-sized businesses, and it is one of the most common global options that companies in Kuwait consider. It is a serious, well-supported product. This comparison looks fairly at where it shines and where Exceed ERP may be the better fit for a business operating in Kuwait.
Two different approaches
Business Central is made by Microsoft, which describes it as a business management solution for small and mid-sized organizations, used by more than 55,000 companies. Microsoft does not sell or implement it directly: it is licensed, implemented and supported through Microsoft partners, including partners in Kuwait. It runs in Microsoft's cloud or on your own servers.
Exceed ERP is an integrated ERP system with a team based in Kuwait, serving more than 180 businesses across Kuwait and the GCC since 2011. The same company provides the software, implementation, training and support, in Arabic and English.
Where Business Central shines
- Deep Microsoft 365 integration: work with ERP data from Outlook, Excel and Teams.
- Power BI, Power Automate and Copilot built around the product, with AI features available in the cloud version.
- Solid core finance and operations: multi-currency, intercompany, inventory, warehouse and projects, with manufacturing and service management in the Premium licence.
- Published list prices per user, per month, and a free trial.
- A large ecosystem of partners and add-on apps on Microsoft's marketplace.
Points to check before choosing Business Central in Kuwait
- Kuwait version and language. Microsoft lists Kuwait as a partner-localized country, and Arabic is not one of the interface languages Microsoft itself provides; Arabic comes from partner language packs. Ask your partner to demonstrate the Arabic screens and printed Arabic documents you will actually use.
- Payroll. Business Central's core product records payroll by importing journal entries from a separate payroll system. Ask which payroll solution will calculate salaries under Kuwait Labor Law, including end-of-service indemnity, and who supports it.
- POS and industry needs. Point of sale, contracting and real estate are typically added through partner apps. Confirm who builds, licenses and supports each one.
- Cloud versus on-premise. Some features, including Copilot and parts of the Teams and Power BI integration, are available only in the cloud version.
- Total cost. Beyond per-user licences, budget for the partner's implementation, any add-on apps and ongoing support.
Where Exceed ERP fits better
- Kuwait's labor laws built in. Exceed ERP's HR module was designed around Kuwait Labor Law, social insurance, leave and end-of-service calculations, with automated payroll inside the same system.
- Arabic and English throughout. Every screen, report and document works in both languages from day one.
- Fewer moving parts. POS, contracting (progress billing, retention, subcontractors) and real estate (lease and sales contracts, installment plans, post-dated cheques) are modules of Exceed ERP itself, sharing one database with accounting and inventory.
- One accountable team. Software, implementation and support come from the same Kuwait-based team, with cloud or on-premise deployment.
Activities built into Exceed ERP
Several activities that matter to businesses in Kuwait are standard modules in Exceed ERP, while Business Central covers them through partner apps from Microsoft's marketplace:
- Contracting: owner and subcontractor progress certificates, retention and advance recovery. Business Central's core projects module is general-purpose.
- Real estate investment and property management: unit sales on installment plans, leases, rent collection and post-dated cheques.
- Car service centers: workshop job orders and vehicle service history. Business Central's Service Management (Premium licence) is a general service module; car workshop solutions come from partners.
- Schools and training centers: enrolment, fees, grades and attendance.
- Freight forwarding and customs clearance: shipment files, bills of lading, clearance and trucking.
- Field collection: Exceed ERP's mobile app lets collectors issue receipt vouchers at the customer's site; for Business Central, dedicated collection apps come from partners.
- Van sales: route sales from the vehicle, with van stock, invoicing and collection at the customer's site, in Exceed ERP. In Business Central, van sales solutions come from partner apps.
Which one should you choose?
Business Central is a strong choice if your company runs on Microsoft 365, wants Copilot and Power BI at the center of its reporting, or belongs to an international group that already uses Dynamics 365. Exceed ERP is the better fit if you want an ERP system designed for businesses in Kuwait, compliant with Kuwait Labor Law, with a fully bilingual Arabic and English interface, POS, contracting or real estate, in one system, from one local team.
Whichever you shortlist, ask each vendor to run one of your real processes in a demo, such as a Kuwaiti payroll month or a progress invoice, and to give a written total cost over three years.
