Odoo is one of the best-known ERP platforms in the world, and it is often the first name a business in Kuwait comes across when it starts looking for ERP software. It is a genuinely capable product. This comparison is meant to help you decide fairly, including the cases where Odoo is the better choice.

Two different approaches

Odoo is made by Odoo S.A., a Belgian company founded in 2005 (originally as OpenERP). It is a large catalogue of apps that you switch on as you need them, available in two editions: a free, open-source Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition. In Kuwait, Odoo is usually implemented and supported through local Odoo partners.

Points to check before choosing Odoo in Kuwait

  • Edition matters. In Odoo's own comparison, full accounting and payroll are part of the paid Enterprise edition, not the free Community edition. Make sure the edition you price includes everything you need.
  • Kuwait payroll. Odoo's official payroll localizations cover several Gulf and Arab countries, but Kuwait is not currently among them. Kuwait payroll is usually added through partner or third-party modules. Ask who maintains that module and how it handles Kuwait Labor Law, leave and end-of-service indemnity.
  • Implementation and local support are separate. Odoo's subscription does not include implementation, and Odoo's own support covers functional questions for the Enterprise edition. Hands-on local support in Kuwait usually comes from your partner under a separate contract, so budget for both.

  • Schools and training centers: enrolment, fee schedules, grades and attendance in Exceed ERP. Odoo's own eLearning app is for online courses; school management systems come from third parties.
  • Freight forwarding and customs clearance: shipment files, bills of lading, clearance and trucking in Exceed ERP. In Odoo these come from third-party apps.
  • Real estate investment: selling units on installment plans with post-dated cheques, alongside leasing. Odoo's official real estate package is aimed at agencies and brokers, and property management requires Odoo Enterprise.
  • Field collection: Exceed ERP's mobile app lets collectors issue receipts at the customer's site. Odoo has no dedicated collection app of its own.
  • Van sales: route sales from the vehicle, with van stock, invoicing and collection at the customer's site, in Exceed ERP. In Odoo, van sales solutions come from third-party apps.

Odoo also offers construction packages with progressive invoicing. If you work in contracting, check how retention, advance recovery and subcontractor certificates are handled. Exceed ERP covers these as part of its contracting module.

Odoo is a strong fit if you want a broad, do-it-yourself app platform, have in-house technical skills or a trusted partner, and value open-source flexibility.
